CAIRO – 10 September 2025: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has directed integrating more renewable energy capacity into the energy mix as he met with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Electricity Mahmoud Essmat on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Sisi also stressed the necessity of coordination and cooperation among all relevant entities to add new capacities, develop the national electricity grid, and enhance its ability to accommodate expected increases in electrical demand over the coming years.

Furthermore, the president called for activating policies aimed at solidifying Egypt’s role as a regional energy hub in the Eastern Mediterranean, maximizing returns, and effectively managing and utilizing renewable energy resources from natural sources.

The president followed up on plans to expand the use of battery storage technology and to establish several power stations connected to renewable energy projects.

These steps aim to maximize the benefits of renewable energy, stabilize the electricity grid, and accelerate technical studies and regulatory frameworks for future projects.

The plan also emphasizes increasing reliance on locally manufactured components, supporting the state’s strategy to localize advanced technology, and specifying the percentage of local content in projects supporting and developing the grid.

This approach ensures the grid’s capacity keeps pace with new generation additions while considering the geographic distribution of connection points, all within the framework of maintaining stable, continuous electricity supply and meeting the requirements of Egypt’s sustainable development plan.
