CAIRO – 1 September 2025: Egypt’s Minister of Labor, Mohamed Gebran, announced that Thursday, September 4, will be an official paid holiday for private sector workers subject to the provisions of Labor Law No. 14 of 2025, on the occasion of the Prophet's birthday.

The Minister affirmed that employers have the right to employ workers on this day if work conditions so require. In this case, the worker is entitled, in addition to their wages for that day, to double their wages, or they are granted another day off in lieu of the day's wages based on a written request from the worker, which is included in their file, in accordance with the provisions of the law.

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has greeted members of the Egyptian Muslim communities abroad on the occasion of Al-Mawlid Al-Nabawi (Prophet Mohamed’s birthday) on Sunday.

In a telegram posted by Egyptian embassies and consulates abroad to members of the Egyptian communities on their social media pages, the Egyptian president said: “My fellow Egyptian Muslims abroad... I am pleased to send you my most sincere greetings and best wishes on the occasion of the birthday of the most honorable of all creation, our Master Mohamed (peace and blessings be upon him). I pray to God Almighty for your continued success and for our beloved Egypt further progress and prosperity.”

Al-Mawlid Al-Nabawi coincides with Sept. 4 this year. It is a beloved occasion in Egypt and is celebrated by prayers, songs praising the Prophet, shows and podcasts on his life, as well as nutty sweets available almost exclusively during the occasion.
