CAIRO – 31 August 2025: Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam announced the details regarding the upcoming edition of Cairo Water Week, scheduled to take place from October 12 to 16, 2025.

Walid Haqiqi, head of the Planning Sector and CEO of Cairo Water Week, revealed that 111 sessions have been registered so far, with over 20 regional and international organizations participating. He shared the updates on Sunday during a meeting with Minister Hani Sewilam.

As a pre-conference event, the World Water Council's Board of Governors meeting will be held on October 11, 2025.

The event’s scientific committee has completed the first phase of evaluations and accepted 116 research abstracts. So far, 54 extended abstracts and 22 full-length research papers have been submitted and are currently under review.

The Competitions and Academic Participation's “Three Minute Thesis” (3MT) competition received 52 entries. Following two rounds of judging—one held in Cairo and another online for international participants—12 contestants from Egypt, China, and Kenya qualified for the final stage. They represent Ain Shams University, Cairo University, Zagazig University, the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology, Huazhong Agricultural University (China), and Egerton University (Kenya).

In the “Young Water Innovators Competition,” 334 projects were submitted, with 181 progressing past the initial evaluation phase.

Meanwhile, the “On the Ground Initiative Competition” saw seven videos and nine posters qualify from five universities: Cairo University, the British University in Egypt, Galala University, Suez University, and Al-Azhar University.

For the “Eighth National Competition for Water Conservation: Farmers Competition,” 433 successful agricultural experiments have been submitted and are currently being evaluated by the Irrigation Development Sector. In addition, submissions for the “Best Graduation Projects Competition” are under review by the Competitions Committee.
