UK Embassy in Cairo closes main building on Sunday after removal of security barriers

CAIRO – 31 August 2025: The British Embassy in Cairo announced temporarily closing its main building on Sunday, stating that the Egyptian authorities have removed security barriers outside its premises.

“The main embassy building will be closed while the impact of these changes is reviewed,” the embassy said in a statement today.

Despite the closure, emergency consular services remain operational by phone on 0020227916000, the statement noted.

Those with pre-booked appointments are requested to call the same number in advance for guidance on how to access the embassy compound.

The embassy has not provided a timeline for the reopening of the main building.
