CAIRO – 30 August 2025: Prime Minister of Yemen's Houthi government Ahmad Al-Rahawi, along with several ministers, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on the capital, Sanaa last Thursday.

Head of the Houthi Supreme Political Council Mahdi Al-Mashat confirmed the news, according to a statement cited by Houthi-linked media on Saturday.

The airstrike also left several others wounded, the statement noted without providing further details on the casualties.

Israel confirmed on Friday that the airstrike targeted top officials from the Houthi group, including the chief of staff and the defence minister.

Mashat's statement did not clarify whether the Houthi defence minister was among those killed.

The Houthis have launched dozens of missiles and drones against the Israeli territory since the start of the war in Gaza, affirming that their attacks come in solidarity with the Palestinians subject to shelling and starvation by the Israeli forces.

The group has also targeted Israel-linked ships in the Red Sea, obstructing international navigation and causing many major shipping companies to reroute their vessels to avoid attacks.

Israel has responded to Houthi drone and missile attacks by precise airstrikes that hit vital areas controlled by the group, including energy infrastructure in Sanaa.
