CAIRO – 30 August 2025: The Ministry of Health has reported the tragic death of three individuals and the injury of 94 others following a train derailment in northern Egypt’s Matrouh governorate on Saturday.
The incident occurred at around 3:30 PM when several cars of passenger train, traveling from Matrouh to Cairo, went off the tracks, according to the Egyptian National Railways (ENR). Two of the train cars overturned as a result.
Emergency teams have rushed to the scene, the health ministry stated, confirming that 55 injured passengers were transferred to Al Dabaa Central Hospital, while 39 others were taken to Ras Al Hikma Central Hospital for treatment.
Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar ordered raising the alert level at nearby hospitals.

Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir directed the formation of a technical committee to investigate the causes of the incident and to impose the strictest penalties on those responsible.
He ordered the immediate dismissal of anyone found guilty of negligence.
Local Development Minister Manal Awad is coordinating with relevant authorities to support relief efforts and ensure that urgent assistance is being provided to the families of both the injured and the deceased.
