Ambassador Ragy El-Etreby, the President’s Personal Representative to the G20 and Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs
CAIRO – 30 August 2025: For the first time, Egypt will host an official G20 meeting in Cairo, scheduled to take place from September 1 to 3, 2025, announced Ambassador Ragy El-Etreby, the President’s Personal Representative to the G20 and Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Ambassador El-Etreby emphasized that this marks the first official G20 meeting to be held outside the group’s member states since its establishment in 1999. He described the event as a culmination of Egypt’s distinguished participation as a guest country in this year’s G20 proceedings—for the third consecutive year and the fifth time overall.
The meeting reflects international recognition of Egypt’s regional influence and its active role in addressing key global challenges. It also highlights Egypt’s commitment to promoting multilateral negotiations that prioritize the concerns and aspirations of developing countries—particularly in Africa—and to amplifying their voices in regional and international forums.
The meeting will be held in coordination with the South African G20 Presidency and will focus on the pressing issue of food security and its multifaceted challenges. It is expected to bring together a significant number of G20 member states, guest countries participating under South Africa’s presidency, as well as representatives from international organizations and financial institutions.
Key discussions will center on the outcomes of the G20 Food Security Working Group and negotiations surrounding the Ministerial Statement on Global Food Security. This statement is anticipated to be adopted during the G20 Ministerial Meeting in South Africa on September 19, 2025, and will form part of the official documentation for the G20 Summit, scheduled to be held in Johannesburg on November 22–23, 2025.
