CAIRO - 30 August 2025: Cairo is witnessing a new phase of development aimed at restoring the civilized appearance of its buildings and streets and reviving the heritage of Cairo's historic and Khedivial areas.
Among the projects nearing completion is the restoration of all buildings in downtown Cairo and the restoration of their heritage appearance.
Azbakeya Gardens is also undergoing development work aimed at reopening it after its restoration and bringing it back to life.
The development of Azbakeya Heritage Gardens aims to restore its splendor and the beauty of its location, preserve its historical, cultural, and civilizational heritage, and preserve its rare and endemic trees.
The project covers an area of approximately 45,000 square meters and is divided into several buildings, including an administrative building, a fire water tank, an electrical transformer building, restroom cabins, a cafeteria, a restaurant, a Roman theater, and a 1,200-square-meter lake with a restored historic fountain in the center, as well as pergolas and a hill.
Azbakeya Park is one of the oldest parks in Cairo Governorate, and the only green space in the Khedivial Cairo Plan. It is being developed by the Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, in cooperation with the Cairo Governorate, to revive it as a recreational area for Cairo residents, as part of the Historic Cairo Revitalization Project.
The ongoing development plan also includes restoring the architectural and heritage value of the park's historical buildings. The area surrounding the park, which includes the Opera Square and Garage, the Theater Complex, Attaba Garage, and Attaba Square, is also being developed.
