CAIRO – 29 August 2025: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly departed Cairo this morning en route to China, where he will represent President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Plus Meeting hosted in the city of Tianjin.

The city will also host the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit from Sunday to Monday and Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to chair the 25th meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State.

Madbouly is scheduled to join heads of state and government at the meeting, where he will deliver Egypt’s address.

The summit will focus on upholding multilateralism, ensuring regional security, and promoting sustainable development.

During his visit, the prime minister will also hold several high-level meetings and is expected to meet with prominent leaders and representatives from major Chinese companies.

Chinese Xinhua news agency has reported that Arab, European and African leaders will gather in Tianjin from August 31 to September 1 to attend the largest-ever SCO summit in history.

Assistant Foreign Minister of China Liu Bin told reporters that leaders from over 20 countries and heads of ten international organizations will be present at the SCO Summit.

Established in 2001 by a group of Eurasian nations, the SCO aims to promote peace, stability, and prosperity across the region by focusing on cooperation in various fields. Egypt is one of the organization’s dialogue partners.
