CAIRO – 28 August 2025: The Egyptian-Qatari tremendous efforts to end the Israeli war on the besieged Gaza Strip have been met with “further disregard,” said Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani during a joint press conference with Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty in Egypt, on Thursday.
“It is shameful to see such a situation [war] persist for all these months without any action from the international community," the Qatari foreign minister added in his speech. However, he affirmed: “Egypt and Qatar are committed to reaching a solution and ending this war, despite all attempts to mislead and obstruct these efforts.” He held the international community accountable for its silence, calling upon it to end Israeli-forced famine and siege on the Palestinians in Gaza.
During his speech, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani said that the region is witnessing a series of escalations in various countries, adding that the irresponsible Israeli actions in Lebanon and Syria are tampering with regional security without any deterrence. He noted that his talks with Abdelatty tackled other regional issues such as the Iranian nuclear file, affirming that all regional issues must be settled down diplomatically.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty stressed in his speech the need for an immediate halt to the killing in the Gaza Strip, the delivery of aid, and the release of prisoners, including Palestinian prisoners, to achieve a final cessation of the aggression against the Palestinian people.
"The ongoing efforts of Egypt and Qatar have not ceased despite Israeli intransigence. We will continue our efforts and communication with regional and international parties to exert full pressure on the Israeli side and reach a deal," Abdelatty added.
He emphasized the complete rejection of the displacement of the Palestinian people, underscoring the fact that it represents the elimination of the Palestinian cause.
Memoranda of Understanding between Egypt and Qatar
The Egyptian-Qatari Joint Committee witnessed the signature ceremony of a number of memoranda of understanding in several sectors on Thursday, said Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty in a press conference with his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, in Cairo.
According to Abdelatty, the signed memoranda of understanding include an agreement in social insurance between the Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity and the Qatari Retirement Authority, and a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the agricultural sector.
Abdelatty also announced the launch of a mechanism for political consultations between the two countries' foreign ministries.
For his part, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman said that the $7.5-billion-investment package announced in Doha will see the completion of the agreements related to the projects that were previously discussed.
The Qatari prime minister added that trade exchange between the two countries has witnessed significant development, expressing his country's aspiration for further growth in this area.
