CAIRO - 26 August 2025: Head of the self-proclaimed “Union of Egyptian Youth abroad,” Ahmed Abdel Qader has been arrested in London after an apparent commotion with Muslim Brotherhood members.

A video shows Abdel Qader, also known as “Medo,” resisting apprehension, but eventually being immobilized and arrested, all while the Brotherhood members are spewing profanity at him.

Medo has recently made several videos outside Egyptian consulates slamming the Muslim Brotherhood diaspora for trying to lock the gates of Egyptian embassies and consulates with chains.

The members of the Islamist group claim they protest the genocide in Gaza, but have not opted to lock Israeli diplomatic premises with chains or organize any significant protest around it.

Only days after a member of the group went viral for successfully putting a chain on the gate of the Egyptian embassy embassy in the Netherlands earlier in August, its protests were dominated by anti-Egyptian government stances, which has been the case since the ouster of late President Mohamed Morsi in 2013, rather than a pro-Palestine position.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Aug. 19, the Egyptian foreign minister received a phone call from his Dutch counterpart, in which he expressed his regret about the chain incident and emphasized he had spoken with the authorities concerned to protect the embassy.

In New York, two members of the Muslim Brotherhood were arrested Aug. 21 for battery and trying to put a chain on the gate of the Egyptian consulate.
