CAIRO - 24 August 2025: A new humanitarian aid convoy departed from the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing on Sunday heading to the Gaza Strip.

This comes as part of the ongoing efforts to deliver relief to the besieged, starving Palestinians, the Egyptian state-owned channel Al Qahera News reported.

The convoy, Zad Al-Izza... From Egypt to Gaza, was launched by the Egyptian Red Crescent, comprising 205 trucks of food and medical aid. The convoy is set to reach southern Gaza via the Kerem Shalom crossing.

The 205 trucks carry more than 3,500 tons of urgent aid, including approximately 3,400 tons of food baskets and flour, as well as tons of medical supplies.

The Egyptian Red Crescent has been acting on the border as a national coordinator dispatching aid to Gaza since the beginning of the crisis. The Rafah crossing on the Egyptian side has never been closed; it has sent in more than half a million tons of humanitarian and relief aid, thanks to the efforts of 35,000 volunteers.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced in a statement on Sunday morning that the death toll of the Israeli-forced famine rose to 289 Palestinians, including 115 children, after recording eight new deaths in the past 24 hours.

It is estimated that the strip needs 7.5 million meals per day to meet the food needs of the population, given the difficult humanitarian conditions, Al Qahera News said.

According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report, more than 500,000 people are currently facing famine, with the crisis expected to spread across other areas of the strip in the coming weeks.

By the end of September, the IPC projects that over 640,000 people will face "catastrophic" hunger (IPC Phase 5), while more than 1.1 million will experience emergency-level food insecurity (Phase 4).

Severe conditions are also reported in northern Gaza, although lack of access has hindered full assessment.
