CAIRO – 24 August 2025: Six academy students drowned and 24 others were injured when a recreational trip to a beach in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria turned tragic on Saturday.

Sixteen ambulances were dispatched to Abu Talat Beach in the El Agamy district, where the incident took place, according to a statement by the Ministry of Health.

On-site medical teams administered first aid to three students, while 21 others were transported to nearby hospitals. Thirteen students were taken to El Agamy Specialized Hospital, and eight to Al-Amriya General Hospital.

All are currently receiving treatment for drowning-related asphyxia under the care of specialized medical teams.

The students were participating in a trip organized by an academy specializing in aviation hospitality when the incident occurred, the statement noted.

Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar is personally monitoring the emergency response and the condition of the injured. He affirmed the ministry’s commitment to providing all necessary medical and logistical support to the victims and their families.

The ministry expressed its deep sorrow over the loss of six lives and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased.

In the interest of the people’s safety, the ministry urged the public to strictly adhere to beach safety guidelines, especially during group outings, to help prevent such devastating tragedies in the future.
