CAIRO - 23 August 2025: Egypt welcomed the announcement made by the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Libya regarding the roadmap for resolving the Libyan crisis, particularly regarding the formation of an interim government to prepare for national elections in the sisterly state of Libya within a specified period of 12 to 18 months.
Egypt stressed the importance of adhering to this timeframe, as it is essential to ensuring the credibility of the political process and fulfilling the aspirations of the brotherly Libyan people for stability and development. This is achieved through a sound electoral process aimed at holding presidential and legislative elections simultaneously, along with the unification of Libyan institutions through a new, unified government.
Egypt reiterated its full support for UN efforts aimed at restoring security and stability in Libya, while preserving the unity and sovereignty of the Libyan state.
