CAIRO - 22 August 2025: The Libyan Attorney General decided on Thursday to jail the owner of a lion farm who appeared in video clips unleashing the animal on people as a joke.

Last week, a video surfaced on social media where the owner let his lion “rough play” with an Egyptian worker.

The worker asked the owner to stop, but to no avail.

The Libyan Attorney General’ statement said the video "included behavior contrary to Sharia, the law, and humanity."

“The accused unleashed the animal on his victims, causing fear and mockery, without regard for the psychological and social consequences of this behavior.”

In Libya, there is a widespread practice of raising predatory animals despite its illegality in the country. An earlier video showed a lion owner also unleashing his lion on African workers.
