CAIRO – 21 August 2025: Hundreds of Palestinian citizens in the Gaza Strip demonstrated on Thursday, raising both Egyptian and Palestinian flags, to demand a halt to Israeli aggression and the bloodshed that has continued for nearly two years. They voiced their strong support for the Egyptian proposal for a 60-day ceasefire.
Organizers of the Palestinian National Movement told Youm7 that today’s protest was the largest to date, aimed at supporting Egypt's efforts to end the war and upholding the Palestinian national position to stop what they described as the ongoing "genocide and holocaust." Organizers said thousands would gather in the Rashad Al-Shawa area to express their refusal to accept the continuation of the war.
The demonstrations saw participation from numerous Palestinian unions, including the journalists', lawyers', and social workers' unions, along with the Palestinian General Union of Women, the General Union of Palestinian Workers, and the General Union of Palestinian Engineers, among others.

Palestinian writers and political analysts view the Egyptian ceasefire proposal as the last opportunity and the hope of all Palestinians to save Gaza City and the central region from ruin and destruction. This comes as the Israeli Minister of Defense has approved a plan to occupy Gaza.
Palestinian writer Akram Al-Sourani affirmed that the Palestinian people support any proposal that achieves a halt to the Israeli aggression and genocide. He stressed the urgent need to stop what he called the "daily extravagance" of killing and death, and for this "madness and absurdity" to cease. Al-Sourani pointed out that the Israeli aggression has destroyed the Strip's infrastructure and extinguished the humanity of its inhabitants, making it essential to salvage what remains.
Al-Sourani explained that between its lines, the Egyptian proposal offers an entry point for a tactical solution and a path toward a rolling agreement that could lead to a comprehensive deal—a core desire for both Palestinians and Egyptians.
He called on mediators to exert pressure on the Israeli occupation at this stage to prevent the disaster of a Gaza invasion and to re-market the deal as the "Israeli Witkoff proposal" to be a comprehensive agreement. This would be a rolling agreement that paves the way for a full ceasefire and a complete withdrawal from the Strip.
