CAIRO – 27 July 2017: Egypt has stressed the importance of Israel's commitment to Geneva conventions which ban violations committed against places of worship that represent a cultural heritage to peoples.

Egypt affirmed also that Israel should respect the commitments to protecting civilians under occupation and put an end to its ongoing violations to the international conventions and humanitarian law.

These remarks came during the speech of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry at the meeting of the Arab foreign ministers held to probe conditions in Al Quds (occupied east Jerusalem) at the Arab League (AL) headquarters on Thursday.

Shoukry said that the meeting comes amid dangerous developments witnessed by the occupied Palestinian territories especially east Jerusalem where unprecedented Israeli measures are taken namely closing Al Aqsa Mosque before worshipers for the first time since 1969.

Such measures included also erecting electronic gates and using surveillance cameras in front of the holy mosque's gates which sparked anger not only in the Palestinian territories but in the Arab cities inside Israel as well, Shoukry underlined.
