CAIRO – 14 August 2025: A wave of scorching heat that has pushed temperatures across Egypt close to the 50°C mark is expected to begin easing this weekend, according to the latest forecast from the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA).
The heatwave will continue through Friday, with felt-like temperatures reaching a blistering 49°C in southern Upper Egypt, home to iconic cities of Luxor and Aswan.
Northern Upper Egypt, encompassing Fayoum and Minya, is also grappling with extreme heat, where apparent temperatures are expected to peak at 45°C.
Meanwhile, South Sinai, home to the popular tourist destination of Sharm El-Sheikh, is currently experiencing felt-like temperatures of 47°C.
Cairo and the Nile Delta are not spared either, enduring daytime apparent temperatures of up to 41°C.
Meanwhile, the North Coast remains relatively moderate, with felt-like highs of around 35°C forecasted for Friday.
Relief on the Horizon
Relief is in sight starting Saturday, as temperatures are expected to gradually decline across much of the country.
In Cairo, daytime highs are projected to decline by 3°C, settling around 37–38°C into next week.
The North Coast will see more pleasant conditions, with temperatures dipping to 33°C during the day.
In southern Upper Egypt, felt-like temperatures will fall below the mid-40s, while northern Upper Egypt will see a drop to below 40°C.
Light rainfall is also anticipated in parts of extreme southern Upper Egypt and the Halaib Triangle on Friday, offering brief respite amid the prolonged heat.
Amidst the heatwave, citizens are urged to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure, especially during peak hours, limit outdoor activities, and stay updated with the latest forecasts.
