Egypt demands clarification over Netanyahu’s ‘Greater Israel’ remark

CAIRO - 14 August 2025: Egypt condemned the “so-called Greater Israel” rhetoric that Israeli channel i24 News brought up with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday.

Egypt demanded clarification regarding the interview, given the incitement of instability, rejection of peace in the region, and the insistence on escalation that this rhetoric entails.

It also contradicts the aspirations of peace-loving regional and international parties seeking to achieve security and stability for all peoples of the region, according to a statement by Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs that came soon after the interview.

In the statement, Egypt affirmed its commitment to establishing peace in the Middle East, emphasizing that peace can only be achieved through a return to negotiations and an end to the war on Gaza. 

After that, this should lead to the establishment of a Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967, lines with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the two-state solution and relevant international resolutions, the statement said. 

In the interview, the host gave Netanyahu what he said was map of “Greater Israel,” asking him if shares that vision, to which the prime minister said “very much.”
