CAIRO – 13 August 2025: The United Media Services (UMS) has announced the launch of a comprehensive awareness campaign highlighting the dangers of road accidents.

“Believing in its role in raising awareness and human development, the United Media Services is launching a campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of road accidents, as part of its social responsibility and ongoing efforts to preserve lives,” the UMS said in a statement early on Wednesday.

The initiative aims to spread a culture of safe driving and encourage positive road behaviors among all road users, the statement read.

The campaign will be rolled out through the UMS various media platforms in collaboration with civil society organizations and various government institutions, the statement noted.

It targets various segments of society, reinforcing the importance of following traffic rules and proper road conduct, and to emphasize the severe consequences, both human and financial, of traffic accidents."

The campaign comes as Egypt continues to witness numerous tragic road accidents this year, many resulting from reckless driving, violations of traffic laws, or driving under the influence.

This includes several recent fatal incidents on the Regional Ring Road, which links key governorates and major highways around Greater Cairo.

According to Egypt’s official statistics agency, CAPMAS, road accident injuries increased by 7.5% in 2024, reaching 76,362 cases compared to 71,016 in 2023.

Meanwhile, 5,260 people died in road crashes in 2024 — a 10.3% decrease compared to 2023 — with Cairo recording the highest number of fatalities among all governorates.
