CAIRO - 12 August 2025: Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has said Egypt's approach to the Nile water issue is based on historical rights.

In a Tuesday press conference in Cairo, Museveni said the overall needs of all Nile Basin countries, including electricity, irrigation, and water, must be met to ensure prosperity for everybody.

He added that putting these provisions on document reduces the scope of the problem.

In terms of cooperation between Egypt and Uganda, the Ugandan president said Uganda would not be a landlocked country if it is linked to Egypt, which overlooks the Mediterranean, via the River Nile.

He revealed that he has already discussed with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi the idea of linking Uganda and Alexandria in that way.

Highlighting friendly ties between the two African countries, he said Egypt supports Uganda in the areas of food and vaccines, and in establishing a vaccine plant.

Museveni emphasized joint investment in the production and marketing of goods and services in the two countries and the African continent to achieve mutual prosperity.
