UN says Israel's targeting of Journalists in Gaza is ‘grave breach of international law’

CAIRO – 11 August 2025: The UN human rights agency on Monday condemned Israel's targeting of Journalists in Gaza, saying that such targeting is ‘grave breach of international humanitarian law’.

“We condemn the killing by Israeli military of 6 Palestinian journalists by targeting their tent, in grave breach of international humanitarian law. Israel must respect and protect all civilians, including journalists. At least 242 Palestinian journalists were killed in Gaza since 7 Oct 2023,” The office of UN Human Rights High Commissioner Volker Turk wrote on X.

They added, “We call for immediate, safe and unhindered access to Gaza for all journalists.”

Seven citizens, including five journalists, were killed on Sunday evening as a result of Israeli shelling of west of Gaza City.

WAFA reported that the occupation forces directly targeted a journalists' tent in front of Al-Shifa Hospital west of Gaza City, killing seven citizens, including fellow journalists Anas Al-Sharif and Mohammed Qreiqea, correspondents for Al Jazeera, photojournalists Ibrahim Daher and Mohammed Nofal, and the crew's driver.

Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation forces have launched an offensive on the Gaza Strip, killing 61,430 citizens, the majority of whom are children and women, and wounding 153,213 others.

The death toll is not final, with a number of victims still under the rubble and on the streets, and ambulance and rescue crews unable to reach them.
