CAIRO – 7 August 2025: A US Army sergeant was arrested on suspicion of wounding five fellow soldiers in a shooting at Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield near Savannah, Georgia, on Wednesday, Reuters reported, citing military officials

The suspect, using a personal handgun, opened fire before being subdued and taken into custody by other soldiers on the scene.

Brigadier General John Lubas, the installation’s commanding officer, stated that all five victims were in stable condition, including three who underwent surgery.

US President Donald Trump addressed the incident during remarks at the White House, expressing sympathy for the victims and their families. “The entire nation is praying for the victims and their families,” he said, condemning the shooter as “horrible.”

While the motive behind the shooting remains unclear, the incident adds to the growing number of gun-related attacks in the United States, where firearms are widely accessible.
