Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, Badr Abdel Aty

CAIRO - 6 August 2025: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, Badr Abdel Aty, departed for Athens Wednesday morning, where he will meet with his Greek counterpart to discuss ways to strengthen the Egyptian-Greek strategic partnership and exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
 
Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, received a phone call from Georgios Gerapetritis, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, as part of the regular communications between the two ministers. The two ministers discussed bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and exchanged views on regional developments.
 
The two ministers valued the historical ties and close shared relations that unite the two countries and commended the momentum witnessed in bilateral relations in various fields after upgrading relations to a strategic partnership last May. They also commended the shared commitment to supporting bilateral cooperation and continuing to develop relations in all fields to broader horizons.
 
Minister Abdel-Ati reiterated Egypt's unwavering commitment to protecting religious sanctities, including Saint Catherine's Monastery, and to preserving and protecting the monastery's sacred religious status and its archaeological sites, given their spiritual value and religious significance.
 
The two ministers exchanged views on developments in the Middle East, most notably the catastrophic humanitarian and health conditions in Gaza. Minister Abdel-Ati reviewed the progress made in efforts to reach a permanent ceasefire agreement in Gaza, stressing the need to stop the bloodshed of the Palestinian people and ensure the flow of humanitarian aid to the Strip.
 
The call also addressed developments in Libya and the critical importance of holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible. They also emphasized the need to dismantle militias and ensure the withdrawal of all foreign forces, foreign fighters, and mercenaries, as this is the only guarantee for achieving security and stability in Libya.
