Egypt’s FM says Egyptian-American relations are ‘strategic’

CAIRO – 1 August 2025: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty, said on Friday that Egyptian-American relations are ‘strategic’ and have a special character that reflects the depth of shared interests.

He emphasized the mutual desire of both sides to develop these relations further, serving the interests of both countries and their friendly peoples.

Abdelatty added in statements to al Qahera news channel, that during his visit to Washington, he conveyed a message of appreciation from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to US President Donald Trump, through the US Secretary of State. He noted Egypt's pride in the role played by President Trump in seeking to resolve conflicts through peaceful means.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs explained that he met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, where the meeting addressed various aspects of bilateral relations between the two countries, whether strategic, political, military, or economic.

“A number of regional issues of mutual interest were also addressed, foremost among them the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and the importance of rapid intervention to end this disaster,” Abdelatty said.

He noted that the discussions with the US Secretary of State also covered other regional issues, including developments in Sudan, Libya, and the Horn of Africa, as well as Syria and Lebanon.

During his visit to the United States, the Foreign Minister cast his vote in the Senate elections at the Egyptian Embassy in Washington. He emphasized in his remarks that the Senate is an important constitutional entitlement and a fundamental right for every Egyptian citizen registered in the voter database.

He emphasized that exercising this right represents a national responsibility for every individual seeking to participate in shaping their country's future.

He explained that the Senate represents a fundamental pillar of the legislative process, alongside the House of Representatives, noting that these elections represent a significant milestone in the history of Egyptian political life and contribute to consolidating the principles of democracy and effective participation in decision-making.
