CAIRO – 30 July 2025: Egypt welcomed UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s announcement that Britain intends to recognize the State of Palestine.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigration described the move as part of growing international momentum toward a Palestinian state within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Egypt reiterated its full support for broader recognition of Palestine under the two-state solution, calling it a crucial step toward lasting peace and regional stability.
The statement also urged countries yet to take this step to follow the path set by the UK and France.
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi also expressed his appreciation for the United Kingdom’s intention to recognize the State of Palestine.
“I highly value the statements made by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Mr. Keir Starmer, regarding the UK’s intention to recognize the State of Palestine. I underscore that the United Kingdom’s announcement of such a decision is the right step on the path towards restoring the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, and I look forward to the UK taking this historic decision as soon as possible without restriction or preconditions,” President Sisi said in a post on his official Facebook page on Tuesday.
“I also reaffirm Egypt’s steadfast position that a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue is the only path to achieving sustainable peace in the Middle East,” he added.
