CAIRO - 30 July 2025: The Cabinet's Information and Decision Support Center's (IDSC) reviewed the Children's Rights Index issued by the KidsRights Foundation in collaboration with the Erasmus School of Economics (ESE) and the International Institute of Social Studies.

This came as part of the Cabinet's Information and Decision Support Center's (IDSC) commitment to monitoring and analyzing global indicators and reports that address Egyptian affairs or fall within its scope of interest,

This index is the first global ranking that annually measures the extent to which children's rights are respected around the world and the extent to which countries are committed to improving their conditions.

The report indicated that this year's edition of the index ranks 194 countries worldwide. The index consists of five main indicators: the right to life, the right to health, the right to education, the right to protection, and the right to an enabling environment for children's rights (such as respect for children, child participation, and non-discrimination). It is based on 20 sub-indicators: 13 quantitative indicators and 7 qualitative indicators.

The index's value ranges from 0 to 1, with the closer a country's score to 1, the better. The report indicated that this year's results showed that more than 14% of children and adolescents worldwide, aged 10 to 19, suffer from mental health problems. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people aged 15 to 29, and the global average suicide rate is 6 per 100,000 among adolescents aged 15 to 19.

The report also noted experts' warnings that these figures only reflect the surface of the problem, as suicides remain widely underreported worldwide due to social stigma, misclassification, and weak reporting mechanisms.

The report indicated that Greece topped the global rankings with a score of 0.879 points, followed by Iceland in second place (0.878 points), Luxembourg in third place (0.878 points), Germany in fourth place (0.876 points), and Monaco in fifth place (0.862 points). Afghanistan, South Sudan, and the Central African Republic ranked last, respectively.

Among Arab countries, Qatar ranked 18th globally and first in the Arab world, with a score of 0.829 points. Bahrain ranked 28th globally and second in the Arab world, with a score of 0.795 points. Egypt ranked 44th globally and third in the Arab world, with a score of 0.775 points.
