CAIRO – 29 July 2025: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi expressed his appreciation for the United Kingdom’s intention to recognize the State of Palestine.

“I highly value the statements made by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Mr. Keir Starmer, regarding the UK’s intention to recognize the State of Palestine. I underscore that the United Kingdom’s announcement of such a decision is the right step on the path towards restoring the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, and I look forward to the UK taking this historic decision as soon as possible without restriction or preconditions,” President Sisi said in a post on his official Facebook page on Tuesday.

“I also reaffirm Egypt’s steadfast position that a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue is the only path to achieving sustainable peace in the Middle East,” he added.

The UK will recognize Palestinian statehood in September ahead of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), The UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Tuesday.

He added that the UK will recognize the Palestinian state “unless the Israeli government takes substantive steps to end the appalling situation in Gaza, reaches a ceasefire, makes clear there will be no annexation in the West Bank, and commits to a long-term peace process that delivers a two-state solution”.

He also reiterated that there is no equivalence between Israel and Hamas and that the UK's demands on Hamas remain - that they must release all the hostages, sign up to a ceasefire, accept that they will play no role in the government of Gaza, and disarm.
