CAIRO – 29 July 2025: The UK will recognize Palestinian statehood in September ahead of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), The UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Tuesday.

He added that the UK will recognize the Palestinian state “unless the Israeli government takes substantive steps to end the appalling situation in Gaza, reaches a ceasefire, makes clear there will be no annexation in the West Bank, and commits to a long-term peace process that delivers a two-state solution”.

He also reiterated that there is no equivalence between Israel and Hamas and that the UK's demands on Hamas remain - that they must release all the hostages, sign up to a ceasefire, accept that they will play no role in the government of Gaza, and disarm.

On Monday, Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al Sisi said that the situation inside Gaza Strip has become “tragic and unbearable.”

“We must ensure that as much aid as possible enters the Strip to alleviate the crisis for our Palestinian brothers,” He added.

Sisi called on all countries of the world, including the European Union, the United States, and the Arab region, to make every effort during this difficult period to stop the war in the Gaza Strip and allow aid into the Strip.

The President said that since October 7, Egypt has been keen to ensure that its engagement with partners in Qatar and the United States regarding stopping Gaza war, is ‘positive’, focusing on three key points: ‘stopping the war, delivering aid, and releasing the hostages’.

He added that the amount of aid we have available and ready to enter the Gaza Strip is enormous, noting that ‘we cannot stop it, nor can anything prevent it from entering the strip, because our ethics, values, and national and moral responsibilities do not permit it.’

However, for aid to enter, coordination with the other party at the crossing is necessary to allow the aid to pass through. This is the effort we have been trying to make over the past period as part of the negotiations, Sisi added.
