CAIRO – 29 July 2025: Cyprus expressed its appreciation to Egypt and its government for their swift response in dispatching firefighting aircraft to help contain the recent devastating wildfires across the island.
“Cyprus and its people are profoundly grateful to Egypt and its government for its immediate response in sending aerial firefighting means to assist in combating the recent devastating fires in Cyprus. A friend in need is a friend indeed,” the Cypriot Embassy in Cairo posted on its official Facebook page Tuesday.
Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi said that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi had issued directives to provide all possible forms of support to Cyprus in its efforts to extinguish the forest fires raging in the city of Limassol.
The minister added that two specialized helicopters were promptly dispatched from Egypt and have already arrived in Cyprus as part of the initial wave of assistance to help contain the crisis
