Sudanese returning back home from Cairo - ET
CAIRO - 29 July 2025: The second train journey returing Sudanese voluntarily from Cairo back home launched Monday.
The Egyptian National Railways Authority announced the continued operation of a special train to facilitate the voluntary return of Sudanese citizens wishing to return to their homeland.
Passengers on the return train to Sudan, which departed from Cairo Station to Aswan shortly after, expressed their joy at their return home. Some dignitaries ululated in expression of their happiness.
Malaz Ibrahim, one of the train passengers, said she was happy to be returning home to her relatives and loved ones. She expressed her gratitude to the Egyptians for hosting them, emphasizing that they did not feel like strangers in their homeland, Egypt.
Artist Mohamed Riad was keen to attend the Cairo Station to participate in the farewells of the Sudanese brothers and their families during the voluntary return. Artist Mohamed Riad confirmed that he was keen to attend the farewell ceremony for his brothers, wishing Sudan peace and security.
Special train number 1940 (third-class air-conditioned) operated on Monday, July 28, 2025. It will depart from Cairo Station at 11:00 AM and arrive at the High Dam at 11:40 PM. The same train, number 1945 (third-class air-conditioned), will return from Aswan to Cairo on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, to serve the public. It will depart from Aswan Station at 8:30 PM and arrive at Cairo Station at 9:25 AM.
The train has been equipped with an additional luggage car (a "Spensa" car) to provide adequate space for transporting the personal belongings of our Sudanese brothers, ensuring maximum comfort and convenience.
This comes in implementation of the directives of Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, to the Chairman and leadership of the Egyptian National Railways Authority (ENRA) to provide all necessary logistical facilities and services to ensure a safe and dignified journey for our Sudanese brothers. This comes in line with the national and humanitarian role played by the Egyptian state towards its brotherly neighbors, especially the Republic of Sudan.
The ENRA affirmed its full commitment to providing ongoing support to our Sudanese brothers, wishing them a safe journey and a dignified return to their beloved homeland, in light of the shared destiny and future shared by the peoples of the Nile Valley.
