This effort is part of the Egyptian initiative that managed to deliver relief to the Palestinians in Gaza on Sunday.
The aid trucks are undergoing inspection by Israeli occupation forces at the crossing before being allowed into Gaza to deliver urgent food and medical relief supplies, in response to the "starvation war" being waged by the occupation against the Palestinian population in the Strip.
The Egyptian Red Crescent is overseeing coordination and logistical preparations, handling the receipt of aid and organizing the entry mechanisms in cooperation with relevant international parties to ensure the aid reaches Gaza residents.
Israeli occupation forces had shut down the border crossings with Gaza since March 2, following the end of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement, without reaching a deal to extend the truce. The ceasefire was violated by intense airstrikes on March 18, followed by renewed ground incursions into several areas of Gaza from which Israeli forces had previously withdrawn.
Additionally, Israeli authorities have prevented the entry of humanitarian aid trucks, fuel, and shelter supplies for displaced civilians who lost their homes in the war. They have also refused to allow in the heavy equipment necessary for debris removal and reconstruction in Gaza.
Aid deliveries resumed in May under a new mechanism implemented by the Israeli authorities and a US security company, despite opposition from UNRWA, which considered it a violation of the established international mechanism.
On Sunday, July 27, 2025, the Israeli army declared a "temporary ceasefire" for ten hours and suspended military operations in parts of Gaza to allow for the delivery of humanitarian aid. Meanwhile, mediators, Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, continue their efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and facilitate the exchange of prisoners and detainees.
