CAIRO – 26 July 2025: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Major General Mahmoud Tawfik, Minister of Interior, on Saturday, according to a statement from the Egyptian Presidency.

The statement did not reveal any more details about the meeting. However, the meeting convened few hours after the Egyptian Ministry of Interior has denied the authenticity of a video circulating on social media that claims a police officer is being detained at a Cairo police station.

In an official statement, the Ministry cited a security source who confirmed that the video—widely shared by media outlets affiliated with the terrorist-designated Muslim Brotherhood—is fabricated.

Last week, the Egyptian Ministry of Interior announced that security forces have killed two members of the Muslim Brotherhood in an exchange of fire, thwarting a plot by the group's armed wing to target security and economic facilities.

The Ministry stated that a civilian who happened to be passing by during the raid tragically died from injuries sustained after being struck by stray bullets fired by the terrorists. An officer was also injured while attempting to rescue the civilian, the statement added.

The Muslim Brotherhood was outlawed and designated as a terrorist organization by Egypt following the ousting of the group-affiliated president, Mohamed Morsi, in 2013. The group has repeatedly denied having an armed wing.
