CAIRO – 26 July 2025: The Egyptian Ministry of Interior has denied the authenticity of a video circulating on social media that claims a police officer is being detained at a Cairo police station.
In an official statement, the Ministry cited a security source who confirmed that the video—widely shared by media outlets affiliated with the terrorist-designated Muslim Brotherhood—is fabricated.
The source also stated that documents being circulated in relation to the incident have no basis in reality.
"Those responsible for producing and distributing the video have been arrested, and legal action is being taken against them," the statement read.
The Ministry added that the video is part of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood's ongoing efforts to distort facts and spread false information in an attempt to undermine the country's stability—"a fact well-known to the Egyptian people."
A video circulating on social media claims that four men stormed an office affiliated with the National Security Department in Helwan City, southern Cairo, and allegedly detained a police officer inside the building.
Last week, the Egyptian Ministry of Interior announced that security forces have killed two members of the Muslim Brotherhood in an exchange of fire, thwarting a plot by the group's armed wing to target security and economic facilities.
The Ministry stated that a civilian who happened to be passing by during the raid tragically died from injuries sustained after being struck by stray bullets fired by the terrorists. An officer was also injured while attempting to rescue the civilian, the statement added.
The Muslim Brotherhood was outlawed and designated as a terrorist organization by Egypt following the ousting of the group-affiliated president, Mohamed Morsi, in 2013. The group has repeatedly denied having an armed wing.
