CAIRO – 25 July 2025: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering support for Senegal’s Five-Year Development Plan and Senegal's national vision, known as Vision 2050, launched by Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
He asserted Egypt’s commitment to building constructive partnerships that advance mutual development goals.
The minister's remarks were made during his address on Friday at the Egypt–Senegal Business Forum held in Dakar.
The event was attended by key figures including Senegalese Minister of Commerce and Trade Serigne Guèye Diop, Director of the Senegalese Investment Promotion Agency (APIX) Bakary Séga Bathily, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture Abdallah Sow, as well as senior government officials and representatives from both the public and private sectors of Egypt and Senegal.
The forum served as a major platform to enhance bilateral economic cooperation by facilitating dialogue among business leaders and exploring opportunities to deepen trade and investment relations between Egypt and Senegal.
A high-level Egyptian delegation participated in the forum, comprising 30 business leaders and executives from prominent companies across diverse sectors.
The delegation was led by Sherif el-Gebaly, head of African Cooperation Committee at the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI).
Other notable participants included Chairman of the Export Council for Medical Industries Mohy Hafez, Assistant Director of the Future of Egypt Authority for Sustainable Development Hazem Ahmed Yehia, and representatives from the Egyptian Exporters Association, the Federation of Egyptian Industries, f the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA).
The forum facilitated direct engagements between Egyptian and Senegalese companies, paving the way for potential joint ventures across key sectors including agriculture, pharmaceuticals, infrastructure, mining, manufacturing, and renewable energy.
Abdelatty expressed deep appreciation for the longstanding ties between Egypt and Senegal, highlighting that bilateral relations, now marking their 65th anniversary, have grown to encompass broad cooperation across political, economic, and cultural domains.
He emphasized that this milestone anniversary embodies the spirit of African solidarity and a shared vision for establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.
Abdelatty further noted that the Egyptian companies participating in the forum bring extensive expertise in sectors that align with Senegal’s development priorities, including energy, petroleum, mining, agriculture, food processing, textiles, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, construction, and information technology.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s readiness to collaborate closely with Senegalese counterparts to explore investment prospects and expand bilateral trade.
The minister also highlighted Egypt’s recent economic reform efforts, particularly in the development of modern infrastructure and the establishment of a legislative framework conducive to investment, which has opened up significant opportunities across a wide range of sectors.
He concluded by reiterating Egypt’s commitment to sharing its developmental experience with Senegal, reinforcing a spirit of African unity and partnership.
The president of the Senegalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Abdallah Sow warmly welcomed the Egyptian delegation, saying that the forum represents the launch of a new chapter in economic and investment cooperation between Egypt and Senegal.
He commended Egypt as a leading model of successful development and investment on the African continent and highlighted the strong participation of experienced and highly competitive Egyptian companies.
Sow expressed confidence that the discussions held during the forum would lead to tangible joint projects that stimulate economic growth and foster the exchange of expertise between the two countries.
He also affirmed Senegal’s full readiness to extend the necessary support and facilitation to Egyptian investors and businesses seeking to enter or expand within the Senegalese market.

Both officials stressed the importance of harnessing this partnership to unlock new prospects for regional integration and cooperation, in alignment with the broader goals of African unity and continental development.
Senegal's current Five-Year Development Plan is part of the broader "Emerging Senegal Plan" (PSE) and covers the period from 2024-2028. It aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) and focuses on structural economic transformation, human capital development, and good governance.
