Egypt’s NEA to announce final list of candidates for Senate elections, Friday

CAIRO – 18 July 2025: The National Elections Authority (NEA) is expected to announce the final list of candidates for Egypt’s Senate elections on Friday, along with their electoral symbols.

This will mark the beginning of the campaigning period for candidates, following the end of the election appeals period that ended on Wednesday.

The National Elections Authority, in Resolution No. 17 of 2025, set forth the regulations governing campaigning in the Senate elections and the prohibitions on such campaigning, which includes:

1.Violating the privacy of citizens or candidates,

2. Threatening national unity or using religious slogans or symbols that call for discrimination between citizens based on gender, language, or creed, or that incite hatred.

3. Using or threatening of violence.

4. Using buildings, facilities, and means of transportation owned by the state, public sector companies, the public business sector, institutions in which the state has a stake, and the premises of civil society organizations and institutions.

5. Using public facilities, places of worship, universities, schools, university campuses, and other public and private educational institutions.

6. Spending public funds or funds belonging to public sector companies, the public business sector, civil society organizations and institutions.

7. Writing by any means on the walls of government or private buildings.

8. Offering gifts, donations, cash or in-kind assistance, or other benefits, or promising to provide them, directly or indirectly.

9. Prohibiting the exploitation of public office for propaganda purposes.

The National Elections Authority has set August 1st and 2nd as dates for Egyptian expats voting in the Senate elections.

The first polling stations to open their doors to Egyptians abroad will be at the Egyptian Embassy in New Zealand, where there is a full 11-hour time difference between Egypt and New Zealand. The last polling stations to close will be in California, USA.
