CAIRO – 18 July 2025: Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Dr. Hani Sweilem, convened a meeting to review preparations for the 8th edition of Cairo Water Week, set to take place from October 12 to 16, 2025, under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

Sweilem commended the growing international stature of Cairo Water Week, highlighting its role as a leading scientific and dialogue platform that unites officials, experts, and decision-makers from around the globe. The event fosters the exchange of expertise and supports collective efforts to achieve global water security and sustainable development.

He stressed the importance of streamlining organizational and registration procedures to ensure a seamless experience for participants. Enhancing engagement from individuals, as well as regional and international organizations, remains a key priority to boost knowledge sharing and scientific research.

Sweilem also underscored the value of corporate and institutional participation in the exhibition component of the week, encouraging the showcasing of cutting-edge innovations and technologies in the water sector.

During the meeting, officials reviewed ongoing preparations and confirmed that applications are now open for regional and international entities interested in organizing sessions during the event. The organizing committee has already received numerous proposals from local, regional, and global institutions, including the World Water Council, UNESCO, and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), with more applications currently under review.

In regard to the week’s scientific conference, the committee has completed the first evaluation phase, accepting 116 research abstracts. The second phase is now open for submissions of extended abstracts or full research papers, with a deadline of July 29, 2025.

This year’s scientific competitions have drawn significant participation across age groups and academic disciplines. Among the highlights is the Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition, aimed at master’s and doctoral students. Designed to enhance concise scientific communication, the competition challenges participants to present their research in just three minutes to a non-specialist audience. A total of 52 entries were submitted, with the first round of judging conducted on June 30 and July 7.

An introductory webinar featuring the judging panel and winners from the 2024 edition was also held. Additionally, the Young Innovators in Water Competition—targeted at students from STEM-focused schools—has received 334 project submissions focused on innovative water solutions. Initial evaluations are underway, following an orientation webinar held on July 13 to guide new participants.
