President Sisi meets with several African leaders on sidelines of 7th MYCM

CAIRO – 13 June 2025: On the sideline of his participation in the Seventh Mid-Year Coordination Meeting (7th MYCM) of the African Union in Equatorial Guinea’s capital of Malabo, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi held several meetings with African leaders on Sunday.

President Sisi met, separately, leaders of Mauritania, Angolan, Ghana, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Libya, Niger.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazwani, Gabonese President Brice Oligui Nguema, Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council Mohamed Menfi, and former President of Niger and pioneer of the African Continental Free Trade Area Mahamadou Issoufou. 

The meetings addressed ways to enhance continental integration, advance development efforts, and maintain peace and security in Africa.

Additionally, President Sisi Sisi met with Ghanaian President John Mahama. The meeting addressed ways to strengthen relations between the two countries, to serve their interests in various sectors of common interest and respond to the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples for development and prosperity, especially in light of the historical ties that unite the two countries.

Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the Official Spokesperson of the Egyptian Presidency, added that the meeting also addressed ways to enhance collective action at the African continent level, in light of Ghana hosting the headquarters of the Continental Free Trade Agreement and Egypt's presidency of the Council of Ministers of Trade in the region. Opportunities for enhancing intra-African trade and overcoming the challenges facing continental integration were reviewed.

The Official Spokesperson stated that the meeting also addressed regional developments, with the two sides discussing the situation in the Sahel, Somalia, and Sudan, as well as efforts to achieve continental stability to support development opportunities.

Furthermore, President Sisi met with Teodoro Obiang Nguema, President of Equatorial Guinea. The Official Spokesperson for the Presidency stated that the two presidents discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and explore broader horizons for cooperation in various fields, particularly in the economic, trade, investment, energy, infrastructure, and industry sectors, to achieve the common interests of the two countries.

President Sisi praised Equatorial Guinea for hosting the coordination summit, which reflects Egypt's commitment to joint African action. 

For his part, the President of Equatorial Guinea praised Egypt's pivotal role on the continent and in the African Union. In this context, the two presidents discussed ways to achieve continental integration in various fields.

The Official Spokesperson stated that the meeting also addressed ways to enhance continental stability and ensure continental peace and security, thus contributing to advancing development efforts.

Also, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Angolan President João Lourenço. During the meeting, President El-Sisi lauded the current Angolan presidency of the African Union and Angola’s commitment to strengthening joint African action across various sectors.

The Angolan president confirmed his appreciation for the President and Egypt's central and historic role in the African continent and in working within the framework of the African Union.

The meeting addressed the situation of peace and security in Africa, as well as ways to consolidate the foundations of stability across the continent. The meeting covered the issues of the Horn of Africa, Sudan, the Sahel, and the Nile Basin.

The meeting also addressed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and explore broader prospects for cooperation in various fields, building on the momentum relations between the two countries have gained, in addition to keenness to achieve the aspirations of the two peoples for prosperity and development.
