CAIRO – 5 July 2025: President Abdel Fattah Sisi on Saturday instructed the government to consider necessary actions to close the Regional Ring Road in areas undergoing efficiency upgrades and maintenance. The road, which links many governorates across Egypt, saw deadly crashes recently.

In a statement by the Presidency, Sisi emphasized the need for appropriate and safe alternatives to the areas set to be closed in order to ensure the safety of citizens and expedite the completion of works.

Additionally, he directed the Ministry of Interior to swiftly implement legal measures against traffic violators.

The president urged intensifying efforts to enforce discipline and adherence to the law on all roads, particularly regarding speed and load limits, in order to protect the lives and property of citizens.

At least 10 people have died and 10 more were injured in Menoufia on Saturday as two microbuses crashed on the road, only a week after a truck collided into a microbus in the governorate, killing 18 young female workers and one man.

A drug test on a sample taken from the truck driver confirmed that he was under the influence of narcotics at the time of the incident, according to the Public Prosecution.

After last week’s crash, Sisi directed the government to closely monitor road maintenance and repairs, particularly on the Regional Ring Road, and to expedite these works.

The president instructed that signs be clearly posted in repair areas and that road reroutes be effectively communicated.

He called for the immediate removal of barriers that contribute to accidents on these roads and for speed monitoring.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly instructed the separation of traffic between private and transport vehicles in areas of the Regional Ring Road where maintenance and development are taking place.

The prime minister ordered increasing traffic patrols, radars and surveillance cameras to ensure compliance with traffic rules and to address any violations.

He affirmed the necessity of completing various repairs and maintenance on the Regional Ring Road by specific deadlines, emphasizing the need to apply all safety and security protocols during the execution.
