CAIRO – 4 July 2025: US President Donald Trump said on Friday that he expects Hamas to probably response to a proposal for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza after the Israeli war has killed more than 57,000 people since October 2023.
Trump earlier this week said he hopes Hamas accepts the proposal, asserting that Israel has agreed to the “necessary conditions” to reach the deal.
“The Qataris and Egyptians, who have worked very hard to help bring Peace, will deliver this final proposal. I hope... that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social.
During the period of the proposed ceasefire, Trump said the US will “work with all parties to end the War.”
The US president told the press on Tuesday that he is hopeful that a ceasefire and captive release agreement can be achieved next week.
Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Sa’ar indicated on Wednesday that there is “a large majority in the government and among the people for the plan to release hostages. If there is an opportunity to do so - it must not be missed!”
Hamas said they will deliver their final decision on the proposal to the Arab mediators after the end of consultations with leaders of Palestinian forces and factions.
Israeli forces continue to kill dozens of Palestinian civilians every day across Gaza amid absence of accountability, including those seeking aid from the distribution centers of the so-called Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), an American newly-established organization backed by Israel.
Israeli forces resumed bombardment on Gaza on March 18, shattering a two-month ceasefire brokered by Egypt, Qatar and the US and had resulted in the release of 38 captives from Gaza, 30 of whom were alive.
