CAIRO - 3 July 2025: Ambassador of Belarus to Cairo, Sergei Terentyev, emphasized the strength of political dialogue with Egypt, which is the foundation of bilateral relations, given the good personal contacts based on trust between President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
During an interview with the Middle East News Agency, Terentyev noted that political contacts between the two countries have developed significantly since 2014. The interview came on the occasion of Belarus's National Day, which falls Thursday.
Terentyev said that the Belarusian President visited Egypt in 1998, 2017, and 2020, while President El-Sisi visited Minsk in 2019. He stressed the need to maintain this momentum, welcoming the Egyptian delegations that will visit Belarus in the coming months, including the eighth meeting of the bilateral joint trade commission in Minsk.
Terentyev stated that Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko's visit to Cairo last year resulted in new agreements and new areas of cooperation, including the establishment of a center in Egypt for the production of animal feed using Belarusian equipment and raw materials, and a grain center using Belarusian equipment for grain storage and drying, as well as enhanced cooperation in the areas of industrial cooperation, water purification, waste sorting, and recycling.
He explained that the meetings of Belarusian Parliament Speaker Igor Sergeenko during his visit to Cairo last May opened new horizons for expanding relations between the two countries, stressing that Egypt is a reliable friend and a promising economic partner, and a gateway to Africa for Belarusian companies.
The Belarusian ambassador to Cairo said that Egypt has become a platform for successful industrial cooperation with his country, given the joint production of Belarusian tractors, harvesters, trucks, and mining and construction equipment. He emphasized his country's readiness to transfer technology to meet the needs of Egyptian partners, including agricultural digitization and other sectors of the Egyptian economy, the provision of medical equipment, and joint research work.
He noted that his country is proud to provide modern, high-tech medical services to Egyptian citizens through its advanced facilities and skilled medical personnel. He also highlighted bilateral cooperation, which includes the implementation of a joint project to produce medical products.
The Belarusian ambassador welcomed Egyptian medical students to undergo advanced training at Belarusian universities, enhancing educational exchange and supporting future medical personnel who will contribute to the development of the health sector in both countries.
He stated that the strategic partnership not only facilitates the exchange of expertise and resources, but also opens new horizons for Egyptian companies to enter the markets of Belarus and the Eurasian Economic Union. He emphasized his interest in leveraging mutual strengths and capabilities to enhance pharmaceutical manufacturing capabilities and ensure access to high-quality medicines for the Egyptian and Belarusian people.
Regarding agriculture, Terentyev said that both sides continue to explore opportunities for cooperation to enhance agricultural productivity, sustainability, and water management practices. He added that bilateral cooperation includes joint research, technology transfer, and joint initiatives aimed at addressing common challenges such as climate change, water scarcity, and food security, while promoting the sustainable development of our agricultural sectors.
Regarding tourism, he emphasized that Egypt is a reliable and trustworthy destination for Belarusian tourists, and is among their top three destinations, along with Russia and Turkey. He noted that the average number of Belarusian tourists spending their vacations in Egypt is 100,000 annually.
He added that the availability of direct flights to Sharm el-Sheikh, Hurghada, and El Alamein contributes to increasing Belarusian tourists to Egypt.
Regarding Gaza, Terentyev affirmed his country's support for Egypt's efforts to stabilize the situation in the Middle East, including the establishment of a Palestinian state.
He also expressed his shock at the increasing number of civilian casualties, including women and children, resulting from the conflict in the Middle East. He noted that attempts to displace the Palestinian population from their lands are unacceptable and contradict the goal of a two-state solution that ends the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. He affirmed Minsk's support for Egyptian diplomatic efforts and activities to resolve the crisis and provide assistance to the residents of the Gaza Strip.
He explained that there is no doubt that the solution to this crisis lies in diplomatic mechanisms, as well as in the Palestinians attaining their legitimate right to establish a fully-fledged state. He noted his country's willingness to participate in Gaza reconstruction projects, given its possession of the necessary equipment, technologies, and engineering expertise that can be deployed for the benefit of the Palestinian people.
He noted the Belarusian President's decision to organize a rehabilitation trip for a group of Palestinian children at the Belarusian Children's Educational and Health Center "Zubrenok" as part of our humanitarian efforts to support the Palestinian people. He also extended a similar invitation to a group of Egyptian children to visit the center in the summer of 2025.
