CAIRO – 2 July 2025: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from his Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday, discussing the developments of the Russia-Ukraine crisis as well as bilateral relations and crises across the Middle East.
Sisi emphasized the importance of upholding diplomatic and political solutions to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, urging prioritizing dialogue, the Egyptian Presidency said in a statement. He reiterated Egypt's full support for all efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful settlement as soon as possible.
The conversation also covered ways to restore stability in the Middle East.
Both presidents underscored the necessity of consolidating the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran and the importance of returning to the negotiation table for a peaceful resolution.
Sisi also highlighted Egypt's efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and facilitate humanitarian assistance.
The talks between the two leaders regarding Gaza come while US President Donald Trump stated that Egypt and Qatar will deliver a 60-day ceasefire proposal, which he said has been accepted by Israel.
Hamas said on Wednesday it is currently discussing proposals from the Arab mediators to reach an agreement that ensures an end to the Israeli aggression and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, while providing urgent relief of people in the enclave.
Besides global crises, Sisi and Zelenskyy also discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations and explore avenues for cooperation in various fields, particularly in economic, trade, and investment sectors.
