CAIRO – 2 July 2025: US President Donald Trump said he hopes Hamas accepts a proposal for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, asserting that Israel has agreed to the “necessary conditions” to reach the deal.

“The Qataris and Egyptians, who have worked very hard to help bring Peace, will deliver this final proposal. I hope... that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social.

During the period of the proposed the ceasefire, Trump said the US will “work with all parties to end the War.”

The US president told the press on Tuesday that he is hopeful that a ceasefire and captive release agreement can be achieved next week.

Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Sa’ar indicated on Wednesday that there is “a large majority in the government and among the people for the plan to release hostages. If there is an opportunity to do so - it must not be missed!”

Trump’s remarks come ahead of an anticipated visit by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whose army has killed more than 56,521 people in Gaza since the start of the war in 2023, to Washington next Monday.

Trump said on Tuesday that he will be “very firm” with Netanyahu on the need to end the war.

Hamas did not immediately comment on the proposal.

Israeli forces resumed bombardment on Gaza on March 18, shattering a two-month ceasefire brokered by Egypt, Qatar and the US and had resulted in the release of 38 captives from Gaza, 30 of whom were alive.
