Egypt’s FM Badr Abdelatty, Omani Counterpart Co-Chair Joint Committee meetings in Cairo

CAIRO -1 July 2025: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty, received on Tuesday, his Omani counterpart, Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi.

The two Ministers held a bilateral meeting, followed by the convening of the sixteenth session of the Egyptian-Omani Joint Committee, in the presence of Minister of Labor, Mohamed Gebran.

The Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, stated that Minister Abdelatty praised the distinguished fraternal relations between Egypt and Oman, commending the wisdom and balance that characterize Omani foreign policy.

He expressed Egypt’s aspiration to enhance all aspects of bilateral relations, increase trade exchange rates, and strengthen the volume of joint investments between the two brotherly countries. This includes exploring investment opportunities in various economic sectors in both countries in the implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and his brother Sultan of Oman, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq.

Minister Abdelatty also expressed his aspiration to activate the joint Business Council between the two countries to enhance cooperation across various sectors, affirming the readiness of Egyptian companies to contribute to development projects in the Sultanate of Oman, particularly within the framework of the projects expected to be implemented under the foreign investment plan announced as part of Oman Vision 2040.

Minister Abdelatty further expressed Egypt’s desire to achieve a qualitative leap in the course of Egyptian-Omani economic integration, especially in the areas of trade, industry, new and renewable energy—particularly green hydrogen and green ammonia—transportation, logistics connectivity, communications, information technology, digital transformation, health, agriculture, and education.

He stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation between the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) and the Special Economic Zone Authority in Duqm (SEZAD), particularly in the fields of maritime transport and logistical storage, as well as establishing a maritime link between Duqm Port and Egyptian ports to boost trade exchange and deepen joint cooperation.

On the issue of international nominations, Minister Abdelatty expressed appreciation for the support provided by the Sultanate of Oman to Egyptian candidacies in regional and international forums and organizations, including Egypt’s nomination of Dr. Khaled El-Anany for the position of Director-General of UNESCO.

Minister Mohamed Gebran also commended the support provided to the Egyptian community in Oman, affirming their commitment to fulfilling their role in contributing to development efforts in the Sultanate. He expressed the Egyptian side’s desire to expand bilateral cooperation in the area of labor training and to strengthen collaboration between the two countries’ Ministries of Labor.

On another note, the two sides discussed a number of regional issues, including developments in the Gaza Strip. Minister Abdelatty stressed the need to resume the ceasefire in Gaza, secure the release of hostages and detainees, and ensure the flow of humanitarian, relief, and medical aid.

He reviewed Egypt’s ongoing arrangements to host the International Conference on Early Recovery and Reconstruction in Gaza immediately upon reaching a ceasefire agreement. Both Ministers affirmed their complete rejection of the displacement of Palestinians from their land and the importance of intensifying joint efforts to mobilize international support for the Arab plan to rebuild Gaza and to support the two-state solution.

The two Ministers also underscored the importance of consolidating the ceasefire between Iran and Israel and prioritizing diplomatic solutions in addressing the Iranian nuclear file as a means to achieve de-escalation, reduce tensions, and promote regional peace and stability. They also discussed developments in Yemen, Syria, Sudan, and the Horn of Africa. The discussions reflected a convergence of views between Egypt and Oman on regional issues.

For his part, Minister Al Busaidi conveyed the greetings of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq to his brother, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. The Omani Foreign Minister praised the depth of Egyptian-Omani relations and the broad partnership between the two countries in the fields of trade, culture, education, youth, and sports. He also affirmed Oman’s support for safeguarding Egypt’s water security.

At the conclusion of the Joint Committee’s proceedings, seven memoranda of understanding (MoU) and executive programs were signed between the two sides in the fields of labor, mineral wealth, investment promotion, media cooperation, food safety, and religious endowments and affairs.
