According to media reports, the accident occurred at exactly 10:00 a.m., when a transport vehicle collided with a microbus that was transporting the girls to their work in a farm in the village of Moanesa, in the Ashmoun district of Menoufia Governorate, in Nile Delta.
Reports also said that the driver was seen sleeping while driving the microbus, and right after the acceident, he fled the scene, but he was later arrested by security personnel and was refered to competent authorities for investigations.
The collision took place on the Regional Ring Road on Friday. Photos from the scene showed the microbus completely wrecked.
The deceased, along with two other injured laborers, were transported to nearby hospitals. Most, if not all, of the victims were aged between 14 and 23 years.
Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsy has directed relevant authorities and the Egyptian Red Crescent relief team to provide urgent assistance and to take necessary measures to complete social investigations to support the families of the victims.
Morsy also ordered the disbursement of compensation to the families of the deceased and to those injured, in coordination with civil society organizations.
