First lady extends new Hijri year greetings to Egyptian, Muslim peoples

CAIRO – 26 June 2025: First Lady Entissar Amer extended her greetings to the Egyptian people and the Islamic nations on the start of the new Hijri year 1447 AH in a social media post on Thursday.

She expressed her hope that Allah Almighty brings goodness and blessings to all, wishing that the new Hijri year is filled with peace and stability, and that Allah protects Egypt and its people from all harm.

Earlier today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi also extended greetings to Egyptians and the Arab and Muslim peoples on the start of the new Hijri year, wishing them blessings and prosperity.

In a social media post, the president said the Prophet’s hijrah (migration from Makkah to Al-Madina Al-Munawwara) “will remain an eternal symbol of diligence, patience, and the sacrifice of precious things for the sake of truth.”

“It serves as a guiding light in our journey toward building an advanced nation that enjoys peace and stability.”

Sisi said he asks Allah Almighty to bring us all goodness, blessings, and prosperity in this year.

In a pivotal moment in Islam’s history, Prophet Muhammad instructed his companions to migrate from Makkah to Yathrib, now known as Al-Madina Al-Munawwara, in response to the persecution they faced from the disbelievers of Quraysh, a powerful Arab tribe that dominated Makkah before the advent of Islam and to which the Prophet belonged.

The Prophet's migration to Yathrib in 622 AD signified the beginning of the Islamic calendar and marked a turning point in the dawah (invitation to Islam).

The Hijri calendar was established by the second rightly guided Caliph and close companion of the Prophet, Umar Ibn al-Khattab, in 637/638 AD.
