CAIRO – 19 June 2025: A foundation stone-laying ceremony was held in Djibouti's capital for a new solar power plant in the village of Omar Jagaa, located in the Arta Region, according to a statement issued Thursday by Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.on Thursday.
The plant is being implemented by the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, and the Djiboutian Ministry of Energy, with funding from the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development and implementation by the Arab Organization for Industrialization.
The project comes as part of the implementation of the outcomes of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's visit to Djibouti in Apri 2025, and is a tribute to the relations between the two countries.
The ceremony was attended by Djiboutian Minister of Energy in charge of Natural Resources Younes Ali Guedi, Undersecretary of the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and Director of the Central Administration at the Ministry Mohamed Osama Issa, as well as representatives of the Arab Organization for Industrialization, and the governor of the Arta region.
The Egyptian Embassy in Djibouti had organized a visit for a delegation from the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and a number of concerned companies to Djibouti from June 15-17. During the visit, both sides highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation in the fields of electricity and energy.
The solar power plant in the village of Omar Jagaa is the first step in the cooperation between the two sides in the energy field. The Egyptian delegation held fruitful discussions with the Djiboutian side, headed by the minister of energy of Djibouti, regarding other bilateral projects to develop the electricity grid in Djibouti and expand the wind power plant in the Jubit region.
