CAIRO – 1 June 2025: The National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) announced that Ambassador Moushira Khattab has submitted her resignation as President of the Council, effective Saturday, May 31, 2025. The resignation comes as Ambassador Khattab prepares to pursue a new role with an international organization.
In her resignation letter, Ambassador Khattab expressed deep gratitude to the political leadership for endorsing her appointment, following the House of Representatives’ nomination in 2021. She also conveyed her appreciation for the opportunity to lead the Council during a critical phase in Egypt’s human rights development.
Ambassador Khattab affirmed her confidence in the current composition of the Council, describing it as an elite group of experts and professionals well-equipped to continue the Council’s institutional mission with efficiency and competence.
Following her resignation, the necessary legal procedures will be initiated in accordance with the governing laws of the Council. In the interim, Ambassador Mahmoud Karem, the current Vice President of the Council, will assume the duties of President and lead the Council for the remainder of its current term, as stipulated by law.
