CAIRO – 9 May 2025: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met on Friday with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Victory Day celebrations in Moscow.
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi expressed his happiness to meet with his Russian counterpart, as he extended congratulations on the occasion of the Victory Day celebrations.
President Sisi said that he was keen to participate in the Victory Day celebrations to affirm appreciation for the Egyptian-Russian ties that culminated with the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement signed in 2018.
The Egyptian President thanked Putin for the warm welcome and generous hospitality.
For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Egypt is Russia's most important trading partner in Africa.
He explained during a joint summit between the two leaders at the Kremlin, that trade between Egypt and Russia increased by 30% last year, noting that relations between Russia and Egypt are developing successfully.
The Russian President indicated that cooperation between Cairo and Moscow is based on strategic cooperation.
President Sisi arrived in Moscow to participate in Russia’s Victory Day commemorations on Friday, at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin.
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi attended on Thursday a banquet hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin for the heads of state and foreign delegations who are in Moscow to participate in celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War.
On Friday, President Sisi attended the military parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War, held at Red Square in Moscow.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, along with several leaders and heads of state, were present.
President Sisi later attended a luncheon hosted by President Putin in honor of the attending leaders and presidents.
