Egypt’s president congratulates European Council, Commission chiefs on Europe Day

CAIRO – 8 May 2025: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has sent cables to President of the European Council Antonio Costa and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen to congratulate them on Europe Day.

President Sisi also dispatched presidential secretary Mohamed Reda El Sayed to the European Union delegation in Cairo to offer congratulations on this occasion.

Europe Day, observed annually on 9 May, marks the anniversary of the “Schuman Declaration,” which marked the date of birth of the European Union.

This year, Europe is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the declaration, made by French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman in 1950.

The event symbolises European unity and peace and is celebrated across Europe, featuring various activities and events.

President Sisi is currently in Moscow, where he is set to attend Russia’s World War II Victory Day commemorations on Friday, at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin.
